“Andrea, it was such a pleasure to attend your Esalen weekend workshop with Jean Kristeller on Mindfulness-Based Eating. You are a gifted teacher and facilitator, and bring a calm, nurturing energy to a difficult (often painful!) subject. You helped us make connections between the science of nutrition and how to actually make loving decisions about the way we eat. I left the weekend energized and excited to continue this journey, with a new sense of optimism. Many thanks!”

Cultivating True Nourishment

Guided Contemplative Daylong or Weekend Mindful Eating Meditation Retreats

These silent guided contemplative retreats will focus on cultivating mindful awareness and nourishing your body, heart and mind through an immersion in selected mindfulness, mindful eating and heart-based practices, including meditation, mindful walking and gentle yoga. You will explore the roles of loving-kindness, self-compassion, nature awareness practices and the most current healthy living guidelines in establishing a strong ground for nourishment to balance your eating and living.

When we eat mindfully, we involve all the senses by engaging the mind and body in a particular way. We can experience food as pleasure and nourishment while finding our right relationship to amount and quality in each moment. A key to having a healthy relationship to food is having skills, practices and a plan to nourish the whole self. In this day or weekend retreat you will be gently challenged to explore what true nourishment is for you, how to discern what you are truly hungry for, and leave with a plan and practices to nourish your whole self in everyday living.

Mindful Eating Meditation Retreats

In these silent guided contemplative retreats, we will learn how to pay attention to what our body really needs and why.  When we eat mindfully, we involve all the senses by engaging our body and our mind. We utilize color, texture, smell, taste, and sound to nurture our experience.

To support cultivating our awareness, we quiet the mind and open the heart through yoga, sitting and walking meditation.  Through these practices of deepening our inner awareness of the body and mind we can experience peace, wisdom and compassion, which is our true nature. We can experience food as pleasure and nourishment while finding our right relationship to amount and quality in each moment.

Mindful eating can nudge us beyond what we’re craving so that we wake up to why we’re craving it.

Weekend MB-EAT Retreats for the General Public

Experience a new approach to eating, one that cultivates inner wisdom through a variety of mindful eating practices and guided meditations. National Institutes of Health-funded research has shown Mindfulness-Based Eating Awareness to be a powerful approach to addressing mindless eating that leads to struggling with weight, obesity, and disordered eating patterns. This is for everyone – no previous meditation experience is required.

In this workshop, you learn

  • A way to eat that is more attuned to your body’s needs
  • To experience the full pleasure and taste of food without overeating
  • Ways to release the guilt and struggle often associated with dieting.

This weekend includes sitting meditation, eating meditations, group discussion and gentle yoga exercises to heighten awareness and deepen understanding of mindfulness as it applies to eating and joyful living. You will also explore current nutrition and exercise guidelines. The tools you take home can help you make more balanced and healthy choices in your life and be truly nourished by the food you eat.
